As i promised last night+++MalMo.CopenhageN.RomE(soontocome).
''Malmo & Coppenhagen in sum----
Over the past couple weeks, we had some rad fellow Aulins come and visit Orebro- Jared Aulin's brother Ryan with gf Nadine & sister- Kirsten Aulin. Everyone was super chill and nice to hang out with- which made our journey to Malmo & Coppenhagen really memorable!
MalMo---
is like a vintage Edmonton- so whyte ave everywhere... It is alot bigger than Orebro so there was a lot more to see and a lot more to take in. Those who know me quite well- you know how i like to walk.... (thanks for putting up with my OCD Aulin crew & Chels).... so i power-housed through Malmo for about 8 hours on foot! I checked out downtown, some second hand shops, a couple old churches (they are everywhere and eventually start to look the same) and the Malmo museum. The Malmo museum was wayyy legit! They tried to retain as much of the castle as they could- for instance the king's quarters where in quite good condition. Here you could walk through the entire building and see some pretty cool exhibits. Outside of the castle i went across to a separate photography museum- lots of lithographs, silkscreens and gel transfers! I actually spent the majority of my time here taking in the work!
Copenhagen---
was way to cool- very alive and busy in a small condensed area! Copenhagen reminded me of Gamla Stan (in Stockholm) but with more everywhere:: compact! When you take the train from Malmo <--into--> Copenhagen you cross country <--to--> country. It is bizarre that no one checks your passports or anything~ no wonder Coppenhagen is the “drug smuggler” of Scandinavia! The train ride is only 20 minutes and you arrive at Tivoli Gardens. As soon as you walk outside the terminal there is a massive amusement park that is still running! Keep in mind, it is starting to get cold in late November- the day we were there it was probably -2 (but felt colder because of wind chill.) From there we walked down Stroget- the main “tourist street” and checked out Nyhaven- the harbour. At the harbour there was a mini market with Danish trinkets- most booths jack up the prices because of the tourists but it still creates a neat atmosphere!
From there on, my wicked crew helped me find the Swedish embassy so i could get my immigration card for Orebro (something i discovered i needed to do 4 hours prior....*frustration*) Ryan, Nadine and Chelsea were all cool with helping me find it and at 2pm (about an hour ) we found it- little to discover that it closed at 12pm. We *lucked* out though and the door mysteriously opened and we got in...
We walked down to Christiania (a neighbourhood that is quite run down but infamous for its former drug smuggling and legal toking.) We got to the “entrance” around 430pm and it was already dark and not such an appealing attraction...especially for Ryan:: a guy with 3 young girls in a rougher territory! So we checked out! Of course, after more walking, we eventually landed at Hard Rock Cafe just outside the terminal. Conveniently we got seated at happy hour- after muchOS walking we earned some well deserved bevys and had a delicious American meal! Then trained back to Malmo!
Since the trip me and dustin have booked our xmas vacation to Stockholm! Dust has a friend who just got traded to another town in Sweden so he will be joining us for the holidays :) The team only gets 3 days off at the break so we decided to stay close and make a relatively “reliable” itinerary (i never posted about my travel day back home from Berlin....but it was a utter nightmare.. so me and dustin did not want to chance a repeat!) Annnnnnnnd i have managed to book another trip in January to Rome:: start 2012 with a bang! So blog readers:: there is much to come!
Chow\W for now!
