it has begun! Finally!!! i taught my first “legit” yoga classeS and could not be more THRILLED~~~~*****~*@!(@*)# (@$$^# % )%()@# (#$@! ! ! !!!
i have taught kids yoga and a couple private yoga classes but no “official” yoga studio business. So here it goes...
once upon a time there was a canadian girl in Sweden. She was a yogi who loved to teach....juusttttt kidding! Here it really goes...
everYthing (like i have mentioned) is in slow motion here-no rush.period. At first when i moved here i was thinking to myself..
“wOw, everyone is living their yOga!”
(which i admit i think is true> verrrrry calm.)
Then after a month of living here i am thinking to myself..
“wow, put the pedal to the metal!”
(a slight shift in perspective you could say)
frustration started to roll in “post-moving” when i started attempting to teach. Last year in NY- no problem! I literally started teaching 2 weeks after i had moved from Edmonton. Here in Sweden- a whole different story. It seemed as if it was going to take forever because of their “no problemo” mentality! & dont get get me wrong- im all about being relaxed & chill- but yoga is my life!
(can you tell i have been working a lot with santosha>contentment ;) )
(i.) i had emailed every possible opportunity to teach here in Orebro (which were few- all 4 gyms and all 2 studios) & nobody was quick to respond. (ii.) i tossed myself into a international swedish BNI meeting where i made a 15 second pitch for “You go Yoga” (my “business”) in English to a group of 80 successful swedes stuffed in a conference room- still no dice! (i did, however, win a sympathy pair of Polaroid sunglasses@the end of the meet)
(iii.) i did a restorative karma class for a personal trainer- nope no luck. (iv.) i did a kids class (lets face it...THAT WAS TOTALLY FUN!!)
however, i was still starting to doubt that i was ever going to teach “adult” yoga here. After a couple weeks i finally accepted that i was oKay with that. I could study a lot, practise my sanskrit, teach ALOT more kids (*fingers crossed*) and maybe master a handstand??
trust me, this took a LONG time to be “okay with” and a VERY patient fiance who had to put up with me and my different... ”energies”.
& then ****drum roll**** FiNaLLY- a bite! by this point it had been just over a month... Sassa Lee Yoga! I had a meeting with Sassa and she took me under her beautiful wing :)
(Big thank you to Sassa for being an amazing soul and having infinite trust)
i did not start teaching till today- but it was well worth the wait!
The studio is quite small (it is comparable to the Lotus Soul Gym on Whyte Ave in Edmonton.) It is quaint&lovely. I taught @10am Vinyassa class and @12pm Restorative class. Both were small, but the students were lovely&very understanding of my minimal swedish (if that is even a fair description.) This is such an aweSOme learning OppOrtunity. My biggest obstacle will be the language:: knowing minimal Swedish&known to use “descriptive” language. I always remember my mom telling me “less is more” and “good things come in small packages” so I guess I will put it to the test<>[keepin' it simPLe]
so grateful to bring in the new year with new challenges, more changes, an adaptive mind [and] continually growing curiosity! **Cheers to 2012
& TEACHING IN SWEDEN!!! **
this song has nothing to do with anything : i just like it ::
.this is what i shared in my classes today.. [December 29th, 2011].
“I wanted to become the seeker, the aroused and passionate explorer, and it was better to go at it knowing nothing at all, always choosing the unmarked bottle, always choosing your own unproven method, armed with nothing but faith and a belief in astonishment.” -Pat Conroy
go into 2012 without expectation, open minded and armed with nothing but faith. Can you embody the same passion of an explorer? Manifest 2012 with a determined heart and continually seeking soul. It is with this armour we find that by knowing nothing at all- we in fact know everything.
