Morning everyone! So I had a special request for a little less yoga and little more me on this blog so here is a VERY brief update on my new living situation (well not so new anymore, but still :) )
Milford, CT has truly become my home away from home. Each day that I step out of my house I want to take a picture. There is so much character in this town. Each house is aged to perfection with old panels or brick wall exteriors. The houses are submerged in lush trees against the ocean. This fall seems to be everlasting so there are beautiful reds, greens and yellows that surround me as I stroll downtown (which is literally a two minute walk from my house.) You could compare Milford downtown to a very “mini” Whyte Ave. There is a café, a live music bar, a couple boutiques, bookstore, two restaurants and an amazing library that sits on the ocean front! Everyone is incredibly friendly!
Our house is lovely and quaint. It has two levels. The main level is very open with a dining room, kitchen, living room, pantry and half bathroom. Upstairs we have three bedrooms and a washroom. We have wooden aged floors, and a beautiful red brick wall that faces the living room. The house is covered in candles that give off a pumpkin spice scent for the upcoming Thanksgiving! These few descriptions give you a feel of how the house is incredibly cozy and, I think, inviting. The house is conveniently a two minute from the train station!
The train takes you all through CT and into NY. Grand Central, in NYC, is just over an hour on the train. So it is really lovely- I can choose to stay in cozy Milford, or jump into busy NYC- best of both worlds! NYC is always amazing. Every time I step into Grand Central my mind blanks and I just think- wow. I feel as if I have just got a good handle on Midtown NY, and now am looking to explore more into West Village, Soho and Meatpacking district. There are these awesome farmers markets that they have Saturday and Sunday mornings where you can find fun and funky NY trinkets! So great for the upcoming season!! The other day I was by Abingdon Square and saw Sarah Jessica Parker with her husband and child get into a limo! And also Helena Christensen (sp?)… who I didn’t know was famous but is apparently a Victoria Secret Model. Besides the famous people, West Village is very trendy. There are lots of cool cafes, shops and little galleries.. And talk about character! Every single building is that I look at has a story to tell. The most incredible restaurants look like run down mills on the outside, but once you step inside its glamorous chandeliers paired with indie art and unique décor. I have only explored a very small part of the city and look forward to seeing so much more!
CT, also, seems enormous! There is a huge art community in New Haven, which is exciting to check out. Yoga seems to be right, left, front, back, high, low- everywhere! It is incredible! My days typically consist of teaching and taking yoga- maybe a journey into the city every now and then! The two strong yoga communities in CT are New Haven (where Yale is located) and Fairfield! They have hot Vinyassa yoga, Bikram yoga, Anusara yoga, Kripalu yoga, Hatha yoga and Kids yoga! But no Moksha! So Im going through some serious withdrawal of Moksha but am having fun exploring all these other types! Every class and everyday is different! Change. It’s a beautiful thing :)
Okay I think that’s it for now! Further “life” updates later to come! I’m off to Long Island for the day, completely unfamiliar territory!
