snowfall

This morning there was a beautiful, dainty snow fall to wake up to- the first of Karlovy Vary.
The snow always makes me think of home and my family- so its an incredible fit that today is also my Dads birthday.    Thank you universe, what a beautiful pairing.

Today this is really just a shout out to my family back home, miss you and love you. The Kohn family is thinking of you- but atleast we have one representative back home, give lots of love for us Annie.XX

.dad your such an inspiration.

sleepless mornings in paris.

Stray enigma hear my whisper.
Tuck my restless thoughts into bed and let me go on stirring my lemonade.
When evening strolls i feel you dress,
your costume is black as midnight yet your eyes still pierce the stark sky-
                 even the moon sees you.

Through your restless nights, my empty canvas hooks to your side, dragging me though endless dreams that gamble my refuge.
We paint from dusk to dawn as you pace restlessly through cobblestone streets-
             worry no more for the tread that you dance                      paves innuendos of hope in my sleepless state;

the riddles we cast daydream secrets of kings and queens in a unscathed soul,
while the ballad you hum so softly is marred as i am        spellbound.

When i wake where are you?
Your trance has bewitched the essence of my marrow,
give me shape.

thanksgiving in Czech

Our family back in Cdn:
my mom + grandma
dustin's mom (my new mom!) + my mom
my dad + dustin's dad (now mine too!)
dust&one of my fav ladies in the world..grandma.

This past weekend one of the ladies here in KV invited alot of the couples from the team to her cottage for lunch... I have to tell you - it was out of this world.  Yes- the food was great, but more importantly the people + atmosphere were so incredible.

Again:: how the universe conspires never ceases to amaze me... it was Canadian Thanksgiving weekend + I dont remember when the last time me + Dustin celebrated.  Tanya's 7 hour lunch/dinner date  was the perfect "thanksgiving" as were were surrounded by a number of happy couples, some families with young little jiggers running around all day + afternoon...
At one point through the night,
Monika's husband, Petr, established
a line up of kids waiting to crawl + cling onto
his leg as he swung them up + down in the air like a human swing.  He is about 6"5 so it was a pretty solid swing!  Nella, Lucy's daughter, is a little chunky 9 month old who I could have absolutely taken home with me!

I skyped with my family later the next day + explained to them how now me + Dustin know how it felt when they were young parents with all my uncles + little kids running around everywhere, so MUCH LOVE filling the house!  Tanya's really felt like a big family..

Of course we always think of our family & friends back home + miss them!  Especially our little girl Annie
(a french bulldog for those of you who don't know)
But this year was really exceptional + pretty amazing.

So grateful to be here in KV
with my new husband,
our new family & friends...

Berlin Return

I understand it has been ages since I have made any sort of post on here- my BIG apologies. Life has been buUuUsssy out here + unpredictable... but now I feel like everything is starting to s.e.t.t.l.e.+ hence my first post with MORE to follow!....promise....

About 2 weeks ago my cousin Mitchell Liddell came out here to visit me.  He was actually working at a business conference in Berlin + made a side trip out to KV to say hey!  We checked out Kraslice- a small town about an hour away from KV where his Opa was raised!  What a small world that we were able to check out such a cool spot with rich history.

We spent some time in Prague (of course) then headed back to Berlin so he could fly back to Canada.  I went back with him to Berlin + spent 5 days there.

The course of what happened will be hard to put into words, but I will do my best to hopefully share the some of the same humour that we experienced....

Upon arriving, we took the metro from our bus stop to where our CIRCUS HOSTEL was at Rosenthaller Platz ( fantastic hostel by the way + excellent location )  Our 40 minute metro ride consisted of a MUCH laughter&tears.

It all started with a young drunk gentleman
sitting across from us holding 5 bottles of beer....
he established his trademark line quickly...
..."Ive got a broken bag and Im going to a party- its a pity"...
which continued to him complaining to
the foreign Brazilian man next
to him about how "they don't make bags like they use to..."
the drunk man continued to ask random
people for an extra bag....he then puts
down his beer bottles+one leaks on the seat..
Brazilian man gets up+off the metro..
older couple enters the metro +proceeds
to sit in the spilt beer on the seat...
they get up + move to another seat
(perturbed by the drunk man's behaviour)..
essentially a train of people continued
to keep sitting in the spilt beer
meanwhile the drunk man continued to
ramble on about random things....
THIS was one of those AWESOME,
rare moments when you cant even speak because you are laughing so hard + are crying.... an expereience that can not really be put into words but a definite highlight of the trip so worth mentioning.

The following day me + Mitch pretty much just got lost all day- wait. wait. wait.- thats a lie- pretty much the entire 5 days we spent lost- but it seemed to work to our advantage!

While trying to get to Kreuzberg  +being misdirected by a metro lady who looked like she couldn't care any less about us, we managed to take a 4 hour detour.  BUT not so bad- we stumbled upon an abandoned airport that is used as an open space for whomever now!

Edmontonians you could think of it like this-
we pretty much walked through all
of Sherwood park looking for
Hawrelak park then asked a foreign woman where
Callingwood is....

about our third hour in we then continued to stumble upon a random zoo, no performance but the animals were just out and about so we got our pictures taken with the camels...
Another day we were looking for Mauer Park to go to the flea market- two hours later to discover that it is only on Sundays.  Instead we found two random horses in the middle of the park and a ginormous climbing wall on the water side....

One of the things that I love most about Berlin is whatever you could imagine or think is impossible, exists and has been done...it ceases to amaze me.

Another day I wanted to return to MY FAVORITE restaurant joint- BURGERS BERLIN in Friedrichshain... the veggie burger did not fail to disappoint me nor the service- SO GOOD.  After we stuffed our faces we only got lost for a short hour on the train, taking it the wrong direction and then riding back to Tiergarten.  Nothing for us!

I know I am jumping all of the place here but we were literally lost the majority of our trip and it honestly worked out SO WELL!   So my recommendation for fellow Berlin goers- do not make an agenda, just go and you will surely discover many super fascinating things because its BERLIN!!

I will let my pictures do the rest of the talking as the majority of my trip was like this blog...jumping around from place to place never knowing where I was going...SO the majority of my trip was incredible.. Thank you as always Berlin.

a delicious cafe just outside the Alexanderplatz metro stop... right on the corner (sorry I did not write down the name) AWESOME cappuccinos
