I understand it has been ages since I have made any sort of post on here- my BIG apologies. Life has been buUuUsssy out here + unpredictable... but now I feel like everything is starting to s.e.t.t.l.e.+ hence my first post with MORE to follow!....promise....
About 2 weeks ago my cousin Mitchell Liddell came out here to visit me. He was actually working at a business conference in Berlin + made a side trip out to KV to say hey! We checked out Kraslice- a small town about an hour away from KV where his Opa was raised! What a small world that we were able to check out such a cool spot with rich history.
We spent some time in Prague (of course) then headed back to Berlin so he could fly back to Canada. I went back with him to Berlin + spent 5 days there.
The course of what happened will be hard to put into words, but I will do my best to hopefully share the some of the same humour that we experienced....
Upon arriving, we took the metro from our bus stop to where our CIRCUS HOSTEL was at Rosenthaller Platz ( fantastic hostel by the way + excellent location ) Our 40 minute metro ride consisted of a MUCH laughter&tears.
It all started with a young drunk gentleman
sitting across from us holding 5 bottles of beer....
he established his trademark line quickly...
..."Ive got a broken bag and Im going to a party- its a pity"...
which continued to him complaining to
the foreign Brazilian man next
to him about how "they don't make bags like they use to..."
the drunk man continued to ask random
people for an extra bag....he then puts
down his beer bottles+one leaks on the seat..
Brazilian man gets up+off the metro..
older couple enters the metro +proceeds
to sit in the spilt beer on the seat...
they get up + move to another seat
(perturbed by the drunk man's behaviour)...
essentially a train of people continued
to keep sitting in the spilt beer
meanwhile the drunk man continued to
ramble on about random things....
THIS was one of those AWESOME,
rare moments when you cant even speak because you are laughing so hard + are crying.... an expereience that can not really be put into words but a definite highlight of the trip so worth mentioning.
The following day me + Mitch pretty much just got lost all day- wait. wait. wait.- thats a lie- pretty much the entire 5 days we spent lost- but it seemed to work to our advantage!
While trying to get to Kreuzberg +being misdirected by a metro lady who looked like she couldn't care any less about us, we managed to take a 4 hour detour. BUT not so bad- we stumbled upon an abandoned airport that is used as an open space for whomever now!
Edmontonians you could think of it like this-
we pretty much walked through all
of Sherwood park looking for
Hawrelak park then asked a foreign woman where
Callingwood is....
about our third hour in we then continued to stumble upon a random zoo, no performance but the animals were just out and about so we got our pictures taken with the camels...
Another day we were looking for Mauer Park to go to the flea market- two hours later to discover that it is only on Sundays. Instead we found two random horses in the middle of the park and a ginormous climbing wall on the water side....
One of the things that I love most about Berlin is whatever you could imagine or think is impossible, exists and has been done...it ceases to amaze me.
Another day I wanted to return to MY FAVORITE restaurant joint- BURGERS BERLIN in Friedrichshain... the veggie burger did not fail to disappoint me nor the service- SO GOOD. After we stuffed our faces we only got lost for a short hour on the train, taking it the wrong direction and then riding back to Tiergarten. Nothing for us!
I know I am jumping all of the place here but we were literally lost the majority of our trip and it honestly worked out SO WELL! So my recommendation for fellow Berlin goers- do not make an agenda, just go and you will surely discover many super fascinating things because its BERLIN!!
I will let my pictures do the rest of the talking as the majority of my trip was like this blog...jumping around from place to place never knowing where I was going...SO the majority of my trip was incredible.. Thank you as always Berlin.
a delicious cafe just outside the Alexanderplatz metro stop... right on the corner (sorry I did not write down the name) AWESOME cappuccinos
